Phakic IOL
What is Phakic IOL?
Use of artificial lenses or interocular lenses (IOLs) has been used successfully for nearly 100 years. Now – with the advent of advanced Phakic IOL – these lenses can be used to treat many common problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and various kinds of astigmatism. Because Phakic IOL is implanted without first removing the patient’s natural lens or cornea, the Phakic IOL process is much less invasive than other forms of corrective surgery. Best of all, patients no longer need to wear eyeglasses or contact lenses after their successful Phakic IOL, and clear vision happens almost immediately. The improvements in vision are also more reliable and predictable with Phakic IOL. Conventional processes must depend upon how well the patient heals – which can vary from one person to another – before determining the degree of vision correction success. But Phakic IOL implants a much more stable lens so the results are easier to predict and vision does not degrade over time. One of the greatest benefits of Phakic IOL when compared to Lasik and other traditional procedures is that Phakic IOL can be used to successfully treat much more severe refractive vision problems. Phakic IOL correction can be done in the 10 to 20 diopter range, for instance, which is much greater than the range recommended for Lasik treatments. That means that if you are not an ideal candidate for Lasik or similar laser surgery procedures you may still have your vision restored through non-invasive Phakic IOL.Who is Phakic IOL for?
