CLE (Clear Lens Extraction)

What is CLE?

Clear Lens Extraction or CLE is a special procedure that, thanks to recent advancements in medical technology, has evolved into one of the most sophisticated and effective treatments for restoring healthy vision. The way that Clear Lens Extraction works – and the way that it got its name – is that the natural lens of the eye that is presenting vision problems is replaced with a synthetic lens. Upon completion of the successful CLE, most patients enjoy complete restoration of vision.

Clear Lens Extraction can provide vision improvement to those who, for example, may have trouble focusing and need eyeglasses or contact lenses. Because the lens of the eye refocuses light to help us see, as we age and the lens loses flexibility we may lose our crisp, sharp vision. CLE offers a brand new ocular surface, reviving our eyesight.

Rather than cutting or shaping the cornea, the CLE vision correction process involves replacing the natural lens. For that reason Clear Lens Extraction is an excellent alternative to traditional cataract surgery. Replacing the original lens through Clear Lens Extraction doesn’t simply trim the cataract but completely rids the patient of the defective lens, replacing it with a new CLE lens.

Prior to the Clear Lens Extraction procedure, your eye will be precisely measured with ultrasound instruments, to determine the exact corrective power of the new CLE lens. The majority of CLE patients are able to resume normal activities the next day after the Clear Lens Extraction.

Who is CLE for?

If you have glaucoma or cataracts then you might be a good candidate for a CLE surgery. People who are unable to get laser eye surgery because of their vision disorder being too high or just dont want to use reading glasses, might also be good candidates for Clear Lens Extraction.
