Lasik

What is lasik?

Laser Assisted Insitu Keratomileusis (LASIK) is the name of the method that is used when nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism is treated.

An eye surgeon uses a micro keratome to create a very small flap of the outer parts of the cornea. The flap is the folded back and the laser reshapes the cornea. The actual laser treatment takes about 5 seconds. After this the flap is gently pushed back into place. The laser treatment is done and most patients experience a slight discomfort or no discomfort at all.

In a day or two your eyes have recovered and you have normal vision again. With the Lasik procedure you can treat both eyes at the same time and its a very secure and proved method.

Lasik also offers the additions of intralase and wavefront. Intralase lasik is also called intralasik and the surgery is entirely blade free. No microkeratome is used, instead a laser opens the flap on the cornea. Wavefront lasik is used on people with astigmatism.

Who is lasik for?

If you want to get rid of your glasses or contact lenses and fulfill the requirements, then you might be a good candidate for a lasik surgery.
